4 v 2
in two grids
Why do it?
• To encourage players to think about direction when keeping possession
• Where and when to support the player in possession
• To encourage decision making about when to play forward
• To encourage players to recognise opportunities to play a first time pass
How to do it?
• Each grid contains a 2 v 1 situation (players are restricted to this area)
• If at any time the red players split the blue defenders with a pass they
get five points
Don’t just copy it, improve it
• Add a neutral player who can play in either grid
• Allow all players to go in both grids
• Award more points for first time passes which split the defenders
