More than a club – MFCE
changes status
A new European association of independent fastener distribution companies has been announced. Called Fasteners Association Europe
(FAE), its members regularly exchange advice on marketing practice and technological changes in all types of fastening systems, devices
and assembly equipment.
FAE has grown out of Modern Fastener Club Europe (MFCE), which was founded in 1967 by a group of fastener distributors who were aware that
business would change dramatically in the coming years – not least because of globalisation. Its members have now recognised that
fasteners, fastening technologies, their markets and marketing, have moved well beyond the vision of forty years ago and that a new profile was
required to encompass all types of assembly techniques and the 21st century way of doing business.
“We realised that we needed a new name and image,” says FAE president Philippe Graber of KVT Switzerland. “‘Modern’ sounded slightly risible
and ‘Club’ is not universally used to describe an association. In changing our name to Fasteners Association Europe, we are reflecting that
‘fasteners’ encompasses a wide range of assembly techniques and all kinds of fasteners and systems.”
“After all, traditional, mechanical fasteners are only one means of holding parts together – FAE members also offer chemical and thermal
fasteners (including adhesives and welding), setting equipment and sonar bonding. “Their businesses reflect the technological developments and
market changes that have brought in lighter weight materials and ever more efficient manufacturing processes,” he added.
The Association is already represented in many European countries and is keen to welcome new members.“It is a unique forum whose members
benefit from a worldwide network of commercial and industrial contacts in virtually every industry,” said Mr Graber. “They have decades of
experience about markets and marketing knowledge and, as experts in fasteners themselves, provide practical support to fellow members.”
The FAE’s main aims are:
• To encourage co-operation between FAE members in management strategy, technical and market development and product portfolios.
• To promote the benefits of belonging to FAE as a leading organisation of mechanical, thermal and chemical fastener distributors.
• To extend its contacts so that members have ever widening marketing opportunities.
Current FAE members are: Biotek, Hungary; Dejond, Belgium; Colly, Sweden; Forind Avio Elettronica, Italy; KVT, Switzerland; Titanox, France;
Titgemeyer, Germany; and Viba, The Netherlands. Details about these companies and the address of the secretariat are on the FAE website –
