Arnold implements
Effective Programme
Arnold Umformtechnik has responded to the pressure of rising prices and increased quality requirements in the automotive
industry by implementing a special ‘Effective Programme’.
Based on the three pillars of ‘innovative technology’, ‘optimum quality’ and ‘intelligent logistics’, Arnold says that this new concept
helps to make production processes in automotive manufacturing more cost-effective long-term.
A study carried out by the Fraunhofer- Gesellschaft, a German research institute, provides evidence that the cost drivers for components
reside not so much in the cost of materials but in the processes themselves.
For component suppliers this is an opportunity to take a step back from the pressure on unit prices by implementing intelligent
concepts and expanding their own service portfolios with a long-term and reliable cooperative partnership with the manufacturer.
Arnold says that its ‘Effective Programme’ helps to reduce the project development cost by up to 70% by applying ‘innovative
technology’ starting at the design stage. A forward-looking assortment policy simplifies the number of different small parts needed. Here,
‘optimum quality’ is the lowest common denominator within the parts selection process, as is an ‘intelligent logistics’ system, tailored
individually to each trading partner.
“The foundations for these pillars are formed by continuous engineering support, a process-oriented approach, as early as the pre-
design stage, as well as the outstanding quality of parts and services supplied,” said Michael Pult, marketing and communications man-
ager at Arnold Umformtechnik.
New Spiralock Drive
Notch™ Wire Thread
Inserts
Spiralock says that its new Drive Notch Wire Thread Inserts
(DN™) allows user to combine the benefits of a streamlined,
“no tang” installation option, with vibration loosening
resistance, more even load distribution, reusability, and
decreased galling.
Independent tests prove that bolts installed into the wire thread
inserts have shown no loss of tension after 24 hours of continuous
vibration testing (one million cycles) and no indication of fatigue
problems.
Unlike tanged wire inserts, which require breaking off, retrieving
and accounting for tangs, the DN™ Wire Thread Inserts require no
such extra steps. Using the Drive Notch installation tool, the inserts
simply thread into any NAS 1130, STI tapped hole with no need to
break off, retrieve or account for tangs, because there are no tangs.
“This speeds installation and improves quality, consequently
reducing costs on multiple fronts. DN™ inserts eliminate the
possibility of loose tangs short-circuiting electronics or causing
foreign object damage. It also prevents harm to expensive castings
by invasive tang removal techniques.”
The Spiralock Drive Notch Wire Thread Inserts use Spiralock's
patented 30-degree "wedge" ramp formed into a unique 5-sided
wire. When wound into a coil shape, it creates the ramp at the root
of the female thread.
