WELCOME NOTE
Welcome to our special eco issue of Design Space. As you would have
noticed, sustainability is the word on everyone’s lips now. And for good
reason too.
Now more than ever, there is a growing awareness that a fundamental change is needed to safeguard
not just the future of our planet but our economic wellbeing as well. We need to look at the way we
run our businesses and how we perceive our relationship with the environment. Rather than being
in some way removed, we are very much a part of it.
At InterfaceFLOR, sustainability became the driving force of our business from back in 1994. We
started with a bold plan to make the 3Rs – reduce, recycle and reuse – the foundation of all that
we do, and we haven’t looked back since.
Today, we are leaner, more efficient and our products are better designed and offer greater value for
money. Over the past 14 years, our global carbon footprint has been reduced by 40 per cent. Our
goal is to reduce this to zero, as part of our plan to eliminate any negative impact we have on the
environment by 2020. We call this plan: Mission Zero™
Of course, we aren’t alone in this mission. We are seeing a rise in demand for sustainable buildings
and products in Asia, as people catch on to the fact that green buildings lead to reduced operating
costs, an improved work environment, higher productivity and higher building valuations. We believe
that collaboration in this area is crucial. InterfaceFLOR can help by providing sustainable products,
services and solutions to help organisations meet their sustainability goals.
In this issue of Design Space, we are shining the spotlight on some of our customers in the region
who are pushing ahead with environmentally conscious practices and innovations. Read about how
organisations such as global architectural firm HOK International and Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Bank
are embracing sustainability in both their operations and facilities under Innovative Interiors.
We hope you will find these stories as inspiring and refreshing as we do.
