SwimmingclubsinScotlandarebeingforcedoutofbusinessbythe
soaring price of pool hire, damaging the chances of producing
futuremedal-winners.
Clubsfacechargesofupto£70,000ayearinhirefeesalone,and
thecostisbeingpassedontoswimmers,whopayasmuchas£700
annuallyinfees.
TenclubsacrossScotlandhavedisappearedinthepastfiveyears
due to financial pressures, leaving thousands of swimmers with
nowheretotrain.
Andwiththecostofpoolheatingrisingevenfurther,moreclubs
areexpectedtogobustinthenextyear.
