Bridge to cover
expansion and
movement
RE-OPENED this year, the Spa
Bridlington, an East Riding of Yorkshire
Council building, is the flagship project in
the £15.5m Bridlington Regeneration
Strategy.
The refurbished building has retained
its classic 1930s ballroom and Edwardian
theatre whilst introducing modern new
facilities. The venue will host a variety of
New indoor courts for Riverside
The historic Spa Bridlington
THE NEW RIVERSIDE Health & Racquets Club, recently opened by Esporta at Chiswick
Park, London includes twelve indoor tennis courts installed by Spade Oak Duracourt.
The specialist Kushion Kourt surfaces stretch across three new halls. The Kushion Kourt
surface system comprises a pre-formed rubber mat which was adhered to the asphalt
base with a two-part polyurethane adhesive. The mat was then sealed with a polyurethane
pore filler to provide a smooth, dense surface.
Following this, 2mm of a self levelling polyurethane was applied before the final top coat of
a Sports Coatings two-part, water-based polyurethane was applied with an airless sprayer.
The playing lines were applied using Sports Coatings’ Sports Line polyurethane line paints.
Reclaimed timber enhances
City bar
LOCATED IN THE heart of London’s financial Moorgate district, and neighbouring
the Bank of England, bluu bar brasserie occupies two floors of a six storey Grade II
listed building. The decor is a mix of classic and contemporary, with quirky design
touches subtly added here and there.
Working with interior design agency Macaulay Sinclair, Victorian Woodworks, a
manufacturer of reclaimed timber floors, provided its Reclaimed Hoxton Railway
Oak as an engineered board for installation throughout the bar and restaurant areas
(below). The product was chosen in order to match the demands of the location.
The reclaimed timber is hard-wearing and suits a heavily trafficked commercial
environment. The richness of colour, peppered with natural splits and knots,
complements the interior design of the new City venue.
drama, music and dance as well as
offering rooms for conferences and
exhibitions.
The dance floor in the main Royal Hall
holds concert audiences of nearly 4,000
people. It was therefore crucial that the
flooring surface would maintain its
appearance and, importantly, that it
would be free of any trip hazards caused
by expansion and movement.
Consequently, stainless steel
expansion joint covers were installed by
Gradus Accessories. The covers’ profile
protects the hall’s flooring and offers a
neat finish whilst allowing for linear
expansion and movement caused by
heat and moisture.
Providing a smooth transition between
different floorcoverings to create a tidy,
safe surface, the covers are available in
three different widths and are supplied
with self-adhesive for quick installation or
without, for screw fixing.
