When you wish to die, pour the Nembutal liquid into a glass and drink the whole 100ml quickly - 2 or 3 swallows. The bitter aftertaste can then be alleviated by drinking some alcohol - usually spirits or liqueur. The alcohol not only removes the bitter aftertaste of the Nembutal but it speeds its action, and there will only be a few minutes of consciousness before sleep. Death usually follows within 1 - 2 hours.
Interaction with other drugs
Those who take Nembutal for a peaceful death are often taking other drugs for various health problems. When approaching the chosen time to take the Nembutal, the question is often asked about whether any intercurrent medications should cease.
There are few drugs that will interfere with the action of Nembutal making it less effective. So there is no real need to deliberately cease taking other drugs in the preceding days. One exception would be the rare case where someone has been taking another barbiturate for some time and has developed a tolerance for this class of drug. This is uncommon although occasionally people take the anti-convulsant barbiturate phenobarb, and in these cases a larger dose of the Nembutal (2 x 100ml bottles) would be advised.
Some drugs enhance the effect of the Nembutal and can even be employed for that specific purpose. An example is the anticonvulsant Dilantin (phenytoin sodium).
