Where no end of life laws exist liquid, veterinary Nembutal is taken orally as a drink, often in conjunction with anti-vomiting medication. It is then followed by alcohol (both to take away the bitter after-taste and to hasten its effect on the respiratory system - see Chapter 8).
Finally, because it is the veterinary form of Nembutal that is required, it is veterinary pharmacies rather than human pharmacies where Nembutal is sold.
Drug Labelling
Where Nembutal is available as an over-the-counter purchase there is a range of retail brands. The key ingredient to look for is ‘Pentobarbital Sodium’. In this book we use the common term ‘Nembutal’ to refer to Pentobarbital Sodium.
