along in nostalgic folkloric beats and the
next, swept up into the blaze of a speed-
metal tangent. Lyrics express Hutz’s
“gypsy-punk” perspectives on the
itchy things in life, things such as green
card marriages, existential dilemmas,
political shenanigans and shameless
odes to the bottle.
Hutz has also said that the band
could be categorized as world music.
“Why not? It’s music of the world.” In
the song, Immigrant Punk Hutz speaks
of the gypsy spirit when he says, “of
course we immigrants wanna sing all
night, don’t you know the singing salves
the troubled soul?”
Eugene Hutz, 35, the founder of
the band, is strangely dashing in his
donned moustache. It is obvious that
the Ukrainian born singer has a ton of
natural energy. He played in a rock band
and was a competitive long distance
runner as a teenager. These days, when
he is not keeping a hectic tour schedule,
