HOSPES MARICEL, PALMA
If hotels could talk, then the Maricel would have plenty to say about decadent
parties hosted by the likes of Errol Flynn and Ava Gardner. But you wouldn’t
know that to look at it. A calming fusion of contemporary colours and design
with more traditional features – like stand-alone baths – Hotel Maricel is a
dream destination on a dream island. The infinity pool disappears into the
horizon, while breakfast overlooking the sea is just the start of another day at
the Maricel. From the elegance of certain grand halls to the terraces going
right down to the sea’s edge (and a “no children under 12 rule” during high
season), this is where you probably need to be right this minute.
5 nights from £685 p.p. (low season) and from £930 p.p. (high season) in
a Double Room on a bed & breakfast basis including flights. Transfers
extra.
PURO OASIS URBANO, PALMA
Puro, in the centre of Palma de Mallorca’s Old Town, comes as a bit of a
surprise. Shock even. You just don’t expect to find this sort of sheer nerve in
a converted 14th century palace. With sharp modern lines and a multi-culti
bohemian brand of whites and blacks with flashes of orange and red, the
place is smart, uncluttered, even a little Japanesey. Flake out on the roof
terrace overlooking palms (or take a dip in the plunge pool), hang out at
Opio, the restaurant that has become el spot caliente for an international
gang of smarty-pantses getting down to the DJ, or simply keep to your Bose
Wave-powered suite with its feather lampshades and baths you could almost
drive a car into.
5 nights from £575 p.p. (low season) and from £645 p.p. (high season) in
a Puro Urbano on a bed & breakfast basis including flights. Transfers
extra.
HOTEL EL PACHA, IBIZA TOWN
You’d have to be living in a desert not to be aware of the Pacha brand of VIP
clubbing. Well now you can extend that experience to a whole hotel. From
the outside it looks funky and disco, with its rounded edges and pink neon
touches, but step inside and it’s a total white-out with fat white columns,
futuristic white furniture broken up here and there with over-fluffy rugs. The
rooms are just as spacious and just as cool while the main suite has its own
hot tub. There’s a pool, a very bouncy, clubby atmosphere (not the best idea
if you’re after a quiet break away from it all) and a hot pink (what, not white!)
pool bar. Oh, and obviously there’s the discotheque, which insiders will
know is the hottest on the whole island, if not the entire Mediterranean.
5 nights from £565 p.p. (low season) from £795 (high season) in a Junior
Suite on a bed & breakfast basis including flights. Transfers extra.
