VICEROY, SANTA MONICA
It’s not that we’re greedy, but when you can combine one of the most
vibrant cities in the world with a relaxing stay at the beach, then we’re all for
it. The Viceroy in Santa Monica, a pretty beach resort a short whiz down
Santa Monica Boulevard from Hollywood, ticks all the right boxes. The styling
is immaculate, with classic furniture cosying up to ultra-modern interiors in
vibrant greens, purples and cool whites. Rooms look out across the pool or
even the ocean, while the dining rooms fit comfortably into all the right Top
50 in the World lists. Add to that a Fred Seagal Beauty Spa (which you can
bring poolside) and the whole of Los Angeles just a convertible cruise away.
5 nights from £855 p.p. in a City View Room including flights. Meals and
transfers extra.
W SAN FRANCISCO, SAN FRANCISCO
If there’s one thread running through W San Francisco, it’s full-thrills sexy.
The open-plan lobby welcomes you with a sigh of West Coast cool, through
to the 90-seat XYZ restaurant – one of SF’s hot spots/spots for hotties – with
seasonal California orange seating and mezzanine bar (holding a vintage
liquor collection that stretches as far as the eye can see). For fun on a smaller
scale, there’s the intimate W Café, but if you fancy leaping to the other side
of the entertainment barometer, do a 180 and trot straight back to the lobby
where board games await, as do chunky couches and pillows for seriously
stylish bouncing. The rooms just simper with sophisticated styling – warm
tones criss-crossed with splashes of fierce design detail – most with views
over the bay.
5 nights from £805 p.p. in a Wonderful Room including flights. Meals and
transfers extra.
CLIFT, SAN FRANCISCO
San Francisco may be one of the US’s most elegant towns, but the Clift takes
elegance to a whole new level. Enter through the vast archway and
immediately you’re in that surreal Philippe Starck world of out-of-scale
chairs, blazing old world fireplaces and lighting that just does things to you
(very dramatic things). And the strictly grown-up playfulness continues into
guest rooms with facing mirrors making an infinity of gorgeous, stylish, pared
down but comfy rooms; the Redwood Room (a bar that seems old-style but
SO isn’t); Asia de Cuba, the world-famous fusion restaurant lit like an avant-
garde theatre production and the Living Room, which is like a Museum for
Fabulous Furniture. A magnet for the city’s coolest.
5 nights from £795 p.p. in a Deluxe Room including flights. Meals and
transfers extra.
