HOTEL VICTOR, SOUTH BEACH
One of the latest stars of South Beach, designed by world renowned
decorator Jacques Garcia – right next to the Versace Mansion – is certainly
not afraid of colour: the whole place is electrified with vivid reds and blues
and golds. From the two-storey lounge to the panoramic sea-view rooms
with infinity-edge baths and rain showers, this is design heaven housed in a
beautiful deco building. With a bar containing a jellyfish tank, a VIP lounge and
an infinity-edge pool with views out across the Atlantic, we are not talking
your regular hotel here. It’s an assault on – and a detox for – the senses.
3 nights from £770 p.p. in a Victor King Room including flights. Meals and
transfers extra.
DELANO, SOUTH BEACH
When you go to a hotel designed by Philippe Starck, you know you’re in for
top drama. Enter the huge lobby broken up by ceiling-high billowing white
curtains, dotted with quirky furniture and then step out onto the verandah
overlooking the lawn, the pool and beyond it, the sea. With white-on-white
rooms (a green apple for a splash of colour), this is high-design and very-
high-glamour; a destination for superstars, fashion shoots and anyone excited
by great good looks and luxury service. A David Barton Gym, an Agua Spa
and a handful of dramatic dining options make it probably the most beautiful
hotel in this neck of the woods.
3 nights from £810 p.p. in a City View Room including flights. Meals and
transfers extra.
MONDRIAN, LOS ANGELES
Hands down the most jaw-droppingly sensational hotel on Sunset Boulevard
(maybe the whole of Los Angeles), this Philippe Starck-imagined shrine to all
that is quirky is as much a design museum as it is a hotel. Pass the Armani-
clad porters, the light-filled lobby crammed with objets d’art, down the dusky
corridors and into your white-on-white-on-white room. With strategically
placed orchids and scented candles (lit for you at turn-down), it’s romantic
but in a fiercely modern way. Downstairs is hot fusion restaurant Asia de
Cuba and the pool, surrounded by starlets and media types overlooking the
whole of LA that becomes West Hollywood’s “must” nightspot – the SKYBAR
– at dusk, when your room key turns into the hottest ticket in town.
5 nights from £875 p.p. in a Standard Room including flights. Meals and
transfers extra.
