TIVE
CELLENCE INITIA
The Cluster of Excellence NeuroCure is located on the Charité campus in the heart of Berlin,
which should become one of the most dynamic centres of neurosciences in Germany.
With a translational research approach, NeuroCure will unite neuroscientists, basic re sear-
chers and clinicians on a single campus, independently of their institutional affi liations.
Disorders of the central nervous system have long been seen as diseases with little
the ra peutic potential. However, due to recent progress in our understanding of patho-
physiological cascades and the generation of novel ideas for intervention arising from
basic as well as clinical studies, the prospects for successful prevention and treatment of

Although NeuroCure will begin with projects focused on cerebrovascular diseases, neuro-
infl ammation, and disorders of network formation, we will invite other neuroscientists
to join us. Thus, researchers interested in mechanisms of neuronal damage, endogenous
neuroprotection, regeneration, interaction of the nervous system with the immune system,
as well as developmental disorders and mechanisms of neuronal plasticity, will allow
