to study signalling pathways in relation to nutrient stress. The project is designed to analyze the initial events of
signal transduction cascades by focusing on modification-dependent protein-protein interactions, phosphorylati-
on events and membrane protein complexes. Candidate proteins will be analyzed by reverse genetic techniques.
The research is based on proteomic approaches and will involve the use of modern nanoflow-HPLC-coupled
mass spectrometry, as well as state-of-the-art resources for plant molecular and biochemical analyses and bio-
informatics.
Applicants should have a Diploma or Masters Degree in Biology, Biochemistry or Chemistry with a strong back-
ground in biochemistry and interest in bioinformatics.

Research Group Leader calibre ...
The new Condensed Matter Division of the Max Planck Institute for the Physics of Complex Systems, which is
directed by Dr. Roderich Moessner, invites applications for the position of Research Group Leader (W2 or TVöD
15). The position is limited to five years and the start date in 2008 is flexible. The successful applicant is expected
to have a strong research record relative to his/her experience, and will be given the opportunity to build a
research group of his/her own. Possible research areas include, but are not limited to, quantum magnetism, cor-
related electrons, novel materials, quantum phase transitions and quantum information theory. The research
environment in Dresden provides many opportunites for interactions with other groups at MPIPKS and nearby
institutions, such as the MPI for Chemical Physics of Solids, the Technical University, the Institute for Solid State
and Materials Research and the Forschungszentrum Dresden-Rossendorf with its high magnetic field laboratory.
Applications will be accepted until the position is filled; the deadline for primary consideration is January 6, 2008.
Applications - containing CV, publication list, statement of research plans and interests, and at least three letters
of recommendation - should be sent to:
