Feature 6 | RIB BUILDING TECHNOLOGY Hurricane RIB to the rescue
Zodiac Hurricane Technologies of Ontario Canada has launched its latest aluminium military rigid inflatable boat (RIB). The craft’s proven durability hardens it to the harshest of sea conditions.
be built by Zodiac Hurricane and features a deep-V hull design and a stabilising buoyancy tube, the Zodiac Hurricane H1100 OB. It has been touted as a ‘go anywhere’ boat and its durability has been proven for multiple applications and all sea conditions.
T
Innovative design The patented MACH design reduces resistance and enhances directional stability for increased speed, fuel economy and safety. The craft is powered with three outboard engines and has hydraulic steering. It is available with either inflatable or DuraRIB foam collars. These features, according to Zodiac, combine to provide improved seaworthiness, shock mitigation, stability and the manoeuvrability required to operate successfully in extreme weather conditions. The H1100 OB Mach II has an
aluminium-stepped hull and deck, designed by naval architect Michael Peters, with 5086 alloy and has a stainless steel bow eye and two heavy-duty stainless steel transom tie-downs. The tank system is dual-fuel, made of aluminium, EC marked (2 x 500litres) with a fuel gauge and fuel/water separators. The craft has high-capacity deck drains
fitted with scupper trunks and both manual and electric bilge pumps.

Navigation lights have been added in accordance with COLREGS’72 for vessels under 20m in length. Other communications
and navigation equipment is available on request.
Control and stability The challenge
that small vessel
manufacturers face when constructing their newbuilds is in maintaining control and stability of the vessel when travelling at high-speeds. Zodiac MACH II achieves this, Todd Salus, Director of Military Operations at Zodiac, explains
“and performs with confidence and the sure-footedness you might experience in a high performance car”. The patented two-step hull and proprietary keel handles the high speeds whilst maintaining stability. The versatile craft will be mainly
used for boarding, interdiction and port security duties. With the aforementioned shock
mitigating technology, 11m two-stepped hull and speeds of 60kts, the MACH II RIB is designed to give operators the advantage on the water. SBI
