Feature 2 | TUGS Busy time for Østensjø Rederi


Østensjø Rederi A/S, Norway, has reported success with the design and operation of towage vessels with recent contracts highlighting this.


L


eading Turkish tug builder and operator, Sanmar Denizcilik, is nearing completion of Vivax


stern drive tug, due to be delivered at the end of 2008. Once complete the vessel will be delivered to Østensjø Rederi A/S of Norway. The vessel has a bollard pull of


80tons and is powered by two Wärtsilä 6L26 main engines, with a rating of 3264hp. During trials the vessel managed a maximum speed of 13.5kts free running. The vessel has been built to an improved Robert Allan RAmpart 3200 design.


Equipment Vivax has Rolls-Royce TW 2000/500


AW 24 U2 H, single drum towing equipment on the bow and stern, and a braking force of 200tons forward and Rolls-Royce TW 2500/400, double drum, and a braking force of 40tons aft. The vessel also has two Rolls-Royce US 255-CP thrusters and one S-150-250-V250 at 250hp bow thruster by Mjosundet. The tugboat is powered by


two LIAG/MAN, D2866 LXE auxiliary generators. It has a freshwater capacity of 37.8m3 and a fuel oil capacity of 195m3


. The


lifesaving equipment onboard includes a RB 400 with 15hp Yamaha outboard engine and two life-rafts that carry up to 16 persons.


The communication equipment


installed onboard includes GMDSS in accordance with Sea Area A3 Sailor, two Thrane & Thrane Sailor VHF radio telephones and the automatic identification system is the Simrad AI70.


Accommodation Vivax has a total of


five cabins, two


single, two double and one quatro cabin. There is also a washroom, laundry room, mess room, day room and galley.


Fleet This latest design follows the earlier delivery of Solent Towage-operated
