Worldwide President’s letter
Dear Friends
It is very exciting t
o be writing to
you in the first edition of
Families Worldwide
knowing that
this new publication g
ives me the oppor
tunity to be dir
ectly in touch with ev
ery Mothers’
Union member in Britain and I
reland. I’m delight
ed to have so much inf
ormation at m
y
fingertips about the ac
tivities of the or
ganisation. I hope y
ou will find that this is a v
ery
positive move
.
I’m writing to y
ou as I fly from Saint John in the M
aritimes to Tor
onto on the final par
t of my
visit to the Mothers
’ Union in Canada. I ha
ve been speak
ing and running a w
orkshop at the
Canadian National C
onference at Mt Allison Univ
ersity in Sackville
, New Brunswick
. Coming
from all parts of C
anada, members made me appr
eciate just how vast this c
ountry is. Some
are lone members because ther
e is no-one geog
raphically close enough with whom they
could join to fo
rm a branch. N
icola Lawrence
, Joint Head of A
ction & Outreach,
accompanied me as w
e brought the
‘bigger picture
’ of Mothers’ Union w
ork worldwide t
o
the Canadian membership
. Sheran Harper
, Diocesan President of Guyana, led a session on
the Worldwide P
arenting Programme
. After the conf
erence, she and Naomi Herber
t (Senior
Programmes O
fficer) ran a suc
cessful parenting training c
ourse for eight people
. This is
such a well struc
tured course which sits so c
omfortably within the M
others’ Union aims and
objectives. I’m v
ery proud to re
commend it to
anyone who has an int
erest in nurturing
families by wo
rking with par
ents in this wa
y.
How about those Roadsho
ws? Did you get t
o one of the sev
en? I hope that Reg Bailey
, Jean
Price and I managed t
o enthuse non-members as w
ell. We met mor
e than 6,000 people
(exceeding the number at the General M
eeting in 2004). I
f you were
there, you will no
w be familiar with the new r
esource for schools
,
churches, and g
roups called [Home] I hope y
ou will find that
you want to use this
. Thanks to Vik
ki White who w
orked so
hard to produc
e the book and DVD
. She has given much t
o
the Marketing Unit in the last thr
ee-and-a-half y
ears at
Mothers’ Union. I k
now that you will want t
o join with me
in wishing her w
ell for the futur
e as she moves t
o continue
her career work
ing with the Jubilee Debt C
ampaign.
As ever, with m
y love
Members from St George's Church
