International Women’s Day is dedicated to the celebration of
women’s social, economic and political achievements worldwide.
So let us continue to pray for our UN work as the CSW conference
begins its second week. May even the smallest of changes in
legislation be worth striving for – to improve a woman’s life
anywhere is our sacred responsibility.
Mon 9th
Our prayer brings great joy and gladness to the Lord. He wants it
and awaits it. So he says this: ’Pray inwardly, even though you find
no joy in it. For it does good, though you feel nothing, see nothing, yes,
even though you think you cannot pray. For when you are dry and
empty, sick and weak, your prayers please me, though there be little
enough to please you. All believing prayer is precious to me’. Julian of Norwich
Tues 10th
Today we pray for all women in Mothers’ Union worldwide and give thanks for
their dedication and faith. May their seed-sowing reap much fruit.
Weds 11th
I am never alone. Christ is always present, always praying in me and I pray in him.
Elizabeth of the Trinity
Thurs 12th
Today we think of women throughout history who have helped transform the world. We
give thanks for their courage and persistence in the face of many injustices and sacrifices.
Fri 13th
We pray for women in leadership positions today; may the Holy Spirit guide them in
all their decision-making. We pray also for all women who are unable to be leaders
because of inequalities and discrimination in their communities.
Sat 14th
For me prayer is an upward leap of the heart, an untroubled glance toward heaven, a cry
of gratitude and love which I utter from the depths of sorrow as well as from the heights
of joy. It has a supernatural grandeur which expands the soul and unites it with God.
Therese of Lisieux
