The expense of printing (see Print Less, right, for more detail) and in particular processing,
filing and handling the mountain of paper that a typical firm produces can be vast.
In its first year after implementing Electronic Document Management (EDM), the Scottish Executive estimates
that it has saved both £500,000 in time formerly used for filing documents by hand and a stack of paper half-a-
kilometre high.
Many large organisations require vast amounts of floor space merely for storing their paper records, paying
vast sums in rent to house information that could just as happily sit on a single computer hard drive.
An Electronic Document Management system provides a framework to store, organise, retrieve and process
electronic documents, and will perform all the functions necessary to ensure the smooth flow of documents
through your business automatically. Apart from the financial advantages, there is no question but that
efficiency will improve markedly.
