OR AT LEAST, GREEN
YOUR AIRCON
Ground-source or air-heat pumps can provide cooling in hot weather as well as heating in the
winter, and solar power photovoltaics connected to the air-con make the greatest sense, as
their power output will be greatest just when cooling is needed the most.
A new development in air-conditioning technology is the hybrid air-conditioning that functions as an adjunct to
your standard cooling systems. These systems cool water during the night, turning it to ice, which cools the
refrigerant during the day. This should cut at least 30 percent off your air-conditioning costs.
So, install one of these systems.
Failing that, at least make sure that the make of air conditioning unit that you choose is
environmentally certified.
If you do run air-conditioning, make sure that you keep windows and doors closed, since they will leak cold air
out just as they leak it in during winter, even though you may not feel a draft.
