DON’T FLUSH MONEY
AWAY: TOILETS
Water bills are predicted to follow energy prices on a steep upward climb.
Few businesses, meanwhile, think of water as a raw material that is paid for twice – once when it’s received
and then again when it’s taken away as waste.
The laughably simple expedient of placing an empty plastic flagon in the cisterns of your office toilets to reduce
the volume of water used when flushing could translate to savings of £500 per year in a large office.
Running the urinals in the gents’ without flush controls accounts for almost half the water used by a typical
office-based company. One of those infrared systems that sense when someone is standing in front of the
urinal could save a business with 100 male employees about £3,500 a year in water and sewage charges – for
an outlay of about £350.
MORE INFORMATION:
ECAs (Enhanced Capital Allowance schemes) are
available for water-saving technologies. See the
dedicated website, which includes more ideas for how
to save on water and sewage costs.
