I
t could be a long hard winter for the
accommodation-only sector as it tries
to weather the storm caused by the
collapse of XL Leisure Group, a reduction
in seat-only capacity to winter-sun destinations
and the general economic gloom in the UK.
Leading bed banks have so far reported
good sales, particularly to traditional
winter-sun destinations, but it will be some
time before the dust settles after the XL crisis.
If flight prices stay high during the winter,
these companies may suffer while there is
also the possibility that consumers will move
back towards buying more package holidays
instead of accommodation-only. .
