Many photographers consider
raising prices after major award wins
but there are to be no shock
increases at Hamilton Studios in the
near future.
Said Lisa: “We charge £45 for a
sitting. An unframed image up to 10x
8 costs £45 and we offer framed
work from £80-£350. Our average
sale is about £500 but people who
come in for a full sitting – and not as
a result of one of our ongoing
promotions – will spend between
£700 -£1500. We haven’t really
raised prices in 5 years and I don’t
expect that we will do so now either.
It’s going to be about trading
through hard times for a while.
Winning major awards is excellent
but we are well aware that we are
now in a recession.”
Added Frazer: “I was talking to a
photographer the other day who
charges three times what we do on
larger pictures, but he admits he
rarely sells any.
We sell large images all the time. I’d
rather be selling at a sensible price
than not selling at all.”
So what’s next at Hamilton Studios?
“I want to achieve Fellowship
status”, admitted Lisa. “Oh, and I am
desperate for a Bowens Jetstream
wind machine. I am so fed up with
improvising with a Homebase air
cooler.”
