Chile receives fi rst Fassmer OPV 80
Th e fi rst of two Fassmer OPV 80 off shore patrol vessels, built for Chile at
ASMAR shipyard, was handed over on 13 June to the Chilean Navy (which
will operate the vessels on behalf of the coast guard) following completion
of sea trials.
xtensive sea trials, partly carried
out under heavy sea conditions
Ein the southern Pacific
ocean, successfully demonstrated the
seakeeping qualities of the OPV 80
design. Running with its two 4080kW
engines at 100% MCR, at full load
displacement, a maximum speed of
21.7knots was obtained; 0.7knots more
than contractually required.
According to Fassmer, the OPV 80 also
performed particularly well in respect
of other key technical requirements,
and it was noted that manoeuvrability,
noise and vibration, and levels of EMI
were in line with or better than dictated
by project requirements. Fassmer notes
that, although naval shipbuilding Chile’s new OPV was built at ASMAR shipyard in Chile to Fassmer’s OPV 80 design.
