Order New patrol boats
for Finland Marine Alutech Oy AB has signed a contract with the Finnish Border Guard for the supply of 13 13.5m patrol boats from 2009 to 2011. T e new vessel design is based on the yard’s prototype which was delivered in autumn 2007. T e contract, worth around €12 million, includes an option for eight more sisterships in 2012 and 2013. The craft will have a length of 13.5m and a
beam of 3.8m. They will be equipped with two marine diesel engines and waterjet propulsion, which give a top speed of over 40knots, even in difficult conditions. T e concept, performance, and equipment has been designed and chosen to fulfi l the requirements of the Finnish Border Guard in border patrolling, sea rescue, and other demanding activities. The wheelhouse has been especially designed for patrolling and assistance activities, such as emergency transport in the archipelago.
Business Ship design group
acquired Wärtsilä has purchased the Norwegian ship design group Vik-Sandvik. T e value of the acquisition is €132 million, with an additional maximum sum of €38 million to be paid based on the performance of the business over the next three years. In 2007, Vik-Sandvik’s turnover was €55 million. This acquisition is another step in Wärtsilä’s
strategy to strengthen its position as a total solutions provider, by combining ship design capability with its existing off ering in propulsion systems and automa- tion. Wärtsilä’s ultimate goal is to become the leading provider of ship design services in various segments. Vik-Sandvik will be integrated into Wärtsilä Ship
Design, within Ship Power. All personnel - including the management - will continue as Wärtsilä employ- ees. Currently, Wärtsilä’s ship design operations are carried out at its German company, Wärtsilä Ship Design Germany, and future ship design services will be combined within this subsidiary. SBI
