Order New contract


for tugs Aker Yards has signed an agreement with DOF ASA for the building of three anchor handling tug supply vessels (AHTS). All the vessels will be of Aker Yards’ own design and equipped for operations in the Brazilian market. T e three ships are scheduled for delivery at the end


of 2010, mid-2011, and towards the end of 2011 respec- tively. Aker Yards Project in Ålesund has developed this new design, and the vessels will be built at Aker Yards in Brazil.

slab on the new site, which will then have a marquee-type shed erected as a temporary measure, with a permanent shed on the newly leased site to be constructed next year. T e 95m Aker AH 12 is designed with an aim to focus


on the future needs for safe operations and the stability requirements. T e vessels will be outfi tted with the latest equipment within safe AHTS operations, such as the largest AHTS winches, cargo rail cranes with manipula- tors, and new systems for handling rig anchors at stern. In order to obtain a fl exible and optimized utilisa-


tion of the machinery, the vessels will be provided with a hybrid propulsion system, combining well-proven conventional diesel engines, direct driven reduction gearboxes, and CP propellers with a diesel electric system. Each of the vessels will have accommodation for 60 persons. T e third vessel is of Aker AH 05 design, and is 74m


in length with a beam of 17m. Like the AH 12 design, the AH 05 will have a bollard pull of 300tonnes and can reach speeds of approximately 17knots. Accommoda- tion will be provided for 38 persons.
