in Millingen on the river Rhine and produced the 110m x 11.45m cargo vessel being the standard of the Rhine navigation. The vessels show a recognised record fuel economy and optimised cargo carrying capacity versus loaded draught. T e dry cargo type has been redesigned
into a chemical tanker and gas tanker version, using the same basic lines for a starting point. In the past year, two chemical tankers were delivered with stainless steel tanks, at present a gas tanker is being outfi tted for delivery this summer. SBI
German federal cabinet adopts masterplan
On July 16 Federal Minister of Transport, Building and Urban Affairs, Wolfgang Tiefensee, submitted the Freight Transport and Logistics Masterplan for managing growing levels of freight and passenger traffi c in Germany, to the federal cabinet for implementation.
Current studies have forecasted a year-on-year growth in tkm of around 70% between 2004 and 2025.
Some of the 35 measures outlined in the masterplan include a move toward modern traffi c management systems, road works management, training schemes for HGV drivers and generally improving the conditions of working and training in the freight transport industry, making Germany a more attractive place for logistics companies to be based. Mr Tiefensee added, ‘it is especially important to shift more traffi c to environmentally-friendly modes of transport, such as the railways and waterways. To this end, we have increased the funding for combined transport from the current fi gure of €65 million per annum to €115 million.’
