A day to remember
The Heinz Storch Memorial Golf Day
Mentmore Golf & Country Club
“Three of the important things in Heinz’ life were golf, customers and doing
something to help those less fortunate than ourselves. There is absolutely no
doubt that he would have revelled in today.”
These were Graham Joyce’s words in welcoming over 60 attendees to dinner following a Fastbolt Charity Golf Day at the Mentmore Golf and
Country Club, in memory of Heinz Storch. The event was the brainchild of the Fastbolt UK managing director and his team – demonstrating clearly
just how well those who worked for him understood and cared for Heinz.
Forty-one players - customers, competitors, suppliers and friends - paid for an outstanding day’s golf on a quite superb Rothschild Course, bathed
in the warmth of an English summer’s day. All proceeds go to the Willen Hospice in Milton Keynes, which provides specialist in-patient, day and
community care for those with life-limiting illness – a cause that has been supported regularly by Fastbolt over many years.
Support was so high that every hole on the course was sponsored by at least one, and in some cases two, fastener industry companies.
Additionally, Fastbolt received an array of prizes for auction and raffle, ranging from Manchester United tickets, power tools, wine and champagne,
to replacement golf balls - the latter no doubt needed in a few cases, given Mentmore’s daunting rough.
At last count, and contributions were continuing to arrive several days after the event, the day raised £6,000 for Willen Hospice – a remarkable
testament to the generosity of the UK fastener industry and the regard in which Heinz Storch was held.
For Willen Hospice it is a valuable contribution to a £2.7 million annual fundraising requirement – only a quarter of funding comes from the UK
Health Service. Located on a lakeside close to Milton Keynes city centre, the charity cares for 600 patients a year but its services extend across three
English counties in providing community nursing, social care and support for carers.
“We have doubled our original fundraising target,” says Graham Joyce, “and, with the unanimous support of everyone who participated, we have
decided to make it an annual event. What can I say but a huge thank you to all concerned and a magnificent testimony to Heinz. I am sure that he
would have been immensely proud to be associated with such a successful day”.
