MEET THE NEW BOSS
We are told that the generation that will be running
business in the next ten to fifteen years is very

timeless. I bought the business as a going concern when I came to uni,
paying for it out of savings and the Bank of M&D (Mum and Dad).
My previous business was in electronics. I started it at 13, buying
anything that I could mend and refurbish – computers, gaming
machines, you name it – then selling it on at a profit.
My ambition is to run a large and successful business of my own.
My values should make that happen; I hate waste and already do
everything in my own business to cut costs and reduce overhead.
The amount of waste all around us is really disturbing, even in the
university. And look at the NHS, its IT overspend is ridiculous. I used to
buy used 50 PC’s at a time from them that would have ended up
in landfill. If that was a business they’d all have been fired. Solve
that waste and they wouldn’t have to go round taxing SUV’s. I am
highly motivated and expect to give and receive respect from my
employees…I’m rather traditional that way.
I had a really bad experience last year that taught me a great
deal; I was working for a friend in the marine business, but he took
liberties and I had to sue him for unpaid fees. The lesson was: don’t
go into business with friends!
The only problem now is that the business has rather overtaken my
studies and I need to work out how to finish the course. I hate failure
and will not give up.
