A spectacular 19th Century theatre will incorporate a modern first-class casino, offering casino table games and electronic games to suit all types of player, with a char- acter restaurant, spectacular live cabaret with celebrity performers,

gaming rooms, poker rooms, private dining and gaming rooms, five bars, outdoor gaming and smoking areas, with entrances onto London’s Leicester Square (with 250,000 people a day passing it) and directly into China- town - all under one very famous roof.
The Hippodrome stands adjacent to Leicester Square and was originally built in 1900 to combine a circus, water spectacle and music hall in one venue. In the first half of the twentieth century, The Hippodrome saw many historic performances. It was here that Julie Andrews made her stage debut and Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake was
first danced in England by the Russian Ballet. The Hippodrome was com-
pletely refurbished in 1957 to create The Talk of the Town cabaret restaurant, which hosted performances by legends including Frank Sinatra, Judy Garland and Stevie Wonder and hosted its own television series, ‘Live from the Hippodrome’. Moving with the times, The Hippodrome was again refur- bished in 1983 to create Stringfellow’s nightclub which won many awards and was the first super club in the country.
Hippodrome Casino CEO
Simon Thomas explains how the latest incarnation repre- sents an ideal usage of this his- toric venue. “The location is fantastic, on the busiest corner in London, above one of the busiest tube stations, with a secondary entrance directly into Chinatown. The building itself is stunning, part grade 2 listed renaissance style theatre that we are restoring to its former glory and part lateral space from the build-
ings adjacent, so we have the perfect mix of impressive tra- ditional architecture and prac- tical contemporary space. Coming after all the new reg- ulations, we have also designed it to optimise 24/7 and post smoking ban opera- tion, creating a world class casino and entertainment venue unlike any other in the UK. The Hippodrome will offer a variety of bars, restau- rants and live performances which will place it amongst the London’s leading enter- tainment venues and the gaming facilities will impress even the most seasoned inter- national gamblers. We will welcome players of all levels to enjoy an array of table and electronic games and a large dedicated card room. The project is already having a pos- itive impact on the local com- munity and we estimate that we will create over 300 new jobs once operational, in addi- tion to the significant special- ist workforce carrying out the redevelopment.” The Hippodrome Casino is steeped in history but the
experienced management team is keen to harness the latest technology to further set the operation apart from its rivals. Accordingly, The Hip- podrome has chosen rising stars Intelligent Gaming to provide its casino manage- ment systems. Chris Dempsey, director of consulting for Intelligent Gaming, said: “We will provide an enterprise-level solution to manage the casino. Our system will cover electronic gaming, tables and poker as well as the cage, loyalty and marketing operations. We will connect to the online gaming platform and a range of devices and systems within the casino to maximise automation and create a seamless customer and user experience.” Although, a casino opera-
tor would typically plan a system implementation a few months ahead of the opening, the Hippodrome Casino and Intelligent Gaming have allowed 12 months. Peter McNally, managing
director of the Hippodrome Casino,
said: “Intelligent
Gaming know the business and their software is modern and flexible. We wanted a partner who would work with us to provide the solutions we need and Intelligent Gaming were a clear choice in this respect. By starting now, we will be able to define and test everything before the casino opens.”
Dempsey added: “We are
working with a team covering all departments to ensure that the system is designed into the fabric of the operation. The project presents the opportunity to exploit a number of our planned inno- vations and many ideas pro- vided by the Hippodrome Casino. Our platform enables us to rapidly develop new functionality and tailor solu- tions to meet each customer’s needs. Each project we com- plete includes functionality designed to address the cus- tomer’s specific needs and adds to the core product. By the time The Hippodrome opens, we will have covered, tested and refined every aspect of the customer
