Participants from almost all the 23 member countries of the European Casino Association are expected to take part in the competition, which celebrates its fifth birthday this year. The event attracts top dealers from across Europe who come together to demonstrate their skills at the roulette and blackjack tables. Competitors are judged not only their technical compe- tence and control of the game but also on their hospitality and entertainment skills as they deal to expert juries of European casino managers and gaming industry pro- fessionals.

In addition to the prestigious title, the

European Champion Dealer also wins an all-expenses paid trip to Las Vegas for two. Last year there were 33 competitors, the biggest competition to date. This year will also see the return of a series of side competitions testing skill and speed with chips and cards; they were introduced last year and were highly popular with competitors. The Best Chipper event looks for the fastest person to sort 500 chips into five different colours

and stack them. Best Card Handler finds who can draw the fastest initial deal at blackjack. Best Chip Cutting is a race to dropcut accurately across the roulette table, and Best Stack Pushing sees who can move up to eight chip stacks fastest around the table. Best Calculator asks for the fastest and most accurate calculation of winnings from stacked chips on a roulette table.

Ron Goudsmit, chairman of the Euro- pean Casino Association, said: “The ECA and its members understand and recog- nise that high quality training is crucial to learning the skills needed to become a good and qualified dealer. The ECA actively promotes training and supports its member in their ongoing efforts to improve professionalism. The European Dealer Championship underlines this policy and also provides participants with an ideal opportunity to get together, exchange information and expand their networks.” He added: “Events of this kind are

extremely important for the reputation of our industry and the people who work in our casinos. The European Dealer Champi- onship provides a clear demonstration of the professional, technical and social skills needed to be a good dealer and of the service excellent enjoyed at casinos across the whole of Europe.” For more information on the event, visit
