With a five-hour flying time and transfer
time of only 20 minutes, Hurghada is a
worldpic
great choice for winter sun and diving.
It’s a better choice for sightseeing than the
Sinai resorts, as it is easy to reach Luxor for
Nile cruises, ancient temples and the Valley
of the Kings, where the pharaohs are buried.
David Carlaw, Premier Holidays’ head of
faraway product, says: “Most of our Red Sea
clients have done a Nile cruise, and Hurghada
is an easy three-hour transfer from Luxor.
“Sunshine is guaranteed, the sea is always
blue and it’s a wonderful place to chill out
after a week in ancient Egypt.”
The new resort of El Gouna, which is
45 minutes from the airport, is starting to
attract plenty of attention.
Olympic Holidays commercial director
Photis Lambrianides says: “It’s called the
Little Venice of the Red Sea because of its
lakes and lagoons.”
Olympic offers a week’s all-inclusive at
the Panorama Resort for £569 in January –
slightly lower than a similar deal in Sharm.
The world’s biggest kitesurfing school has
opened in El Gouna. Soma Bay, 45 minutes
Eilat, on the southern tip of Israel, used to be very popular with Britons but is now featured by only a few specialist operators from Hurghada, has a new 18-hole golf course.
