Fall on the east end

Dear Friends,
In the last lines of ‘It’s The Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown’, Linus will never admit he has done a
stupid thing by waiting for the Great Pumpkin. Only to say, “you’ll see, next year at this same
time, I’ll find the perfect pumpkin patch… The Great Pumpkin will appear and I'll be waiting for
him...”
In a way, we sometimes wait too long for that perfect pumpkin, metaphorically speaking.
However, I look to this new season with excitement and say why wait? There’s so much to do
and good times to be had. Don’t wait for tomorrow to celebrate.
Autumn is defined by back to school, return of football and Halloween. For me it’s also about the
harvest and on that first crisp night I get a surge of creativity. There is a new bounty of
ingredients from the garden. I can smell the stews and soups simmering along with pies cooling
off in the kitchen.
When was the last time you raked a pile of leaves and just ran and jumped into the pile? But,
before raking that pile of leaves you can set your slow cooker and whip up a savory Italian Pot
Roast, page 28. After jumping into that pile of leaves, sip some Chianti with Michael Tucker’s
book, Living in a Foreign Language, page 4.
The day before you head out to the tailgate you’ll want to prepare the ‘Faux Pressure Cooker
Chili’, page 24.
Prepare an autumn picnic with my Moist Carrot Cupcakes with Cream Cheese Icing, page 16,
before venturing out to the pumpkin patch and make a day of it.

o-lantern. It’s a great time of year!
