News from the web

Welshrecruitment.co.uk is currently the fastest growing jobs website in Wales. And, the number of people in Wales applying for jobs online has increased by 52% since last year as Wales continues to outperform the rest of the UK in jobs offered via the web. The most popular jobs were in the hospitality, tourism and service sectors, according to online recruitment website Monster.

MySpace, the social networking website, has revealed that over 28,000 people in Wales regularly use the site. But, rival Facebook is fast threatening to oust its rival as the UK’s most popular networking site. In the last six months, the number of users choosing Facebook has increased at a rate of 523 per cent – 19 times the rate of MySpace, with the current second place site, Bebo, enjoying a 49 per growth.

British surfers are too impatient. 70 per cent of internet users refuse to wait longer than 10 seconds for a web page to upload. And, over two-thirds of online shoppers have abandoned their orders halfway through checkout due to slow processing speeds, according to PacketExchange.

Three-fi fths of internet users have seen a clip on YouTube. 60 per cent of internet users have seen a video on YouTube, according to market researchers BMRB. Not surprisingly the biggest audience was the younger demographic with 85 per cent of 16- 24 years olds and only 35 per cent of 55-64 year olds having watched a clip.

Teenagers and young adults in the UK are spending an average of 24 per cent more time online than the average internet user, according to research firm comScore. The growing popularity of social networking sites is identifi ed as the main reason why young people are logging on.
