n these difficult times, more men are
looking to make investment
purchases and what could make more
sense than a suit? T_his season’s must
have is the classic suit and will be your office
armour, as well as last for years. We are also
seeing a return to dressing up for nights out,
and this will continue into autumn/winter 09
when the suit will become an even bigger
trend.
Zegna will bring you the ultimate power suit,
delivering a move away from the skinny-leg
shape to an early 1930s look, with squarer
shoulders, a tighter waist and, again, a
baggier leg. T_his shape is easy to wear. D&G
is another fabulous label to invest in, if you’re
looking for a very slick suit.
Denim is back with a vengeance this season.
T_he catwalks were full of head-to-toe denim,
in every kind of wash. It’s about channelling
that late 80s, masculine look, where different
shades of denim, even stonewash, were worn
together. Try mixing a denim shirt with
jeans, or break out the classic denim jacket
again. T_he labels to look out for include
D&G and All Mankind Sport, as well as
Levi’s, of course. Vivienne Westwood and
Balenciaga see skinny-leg jeans giving way to
an easier-to-wear baggier look.
Colour is also a huge trend. Wear it loud and
proud for a dynamic and confident look,
opting for bold, bright blocks of colour. You
can wear this look as a flash of colour, in
accessories or a t-shirt, just as it was seen on
the runways at Dior Homme. It’s also great
to wear in knitwear, with a boldly-coloured
cashmere sweater or cardigan. Or if you’re
not feeling too bold try a pair of bright red
socks from Paul Smith.
My top tips
for spring?
Buy a great suit
And invest in a statement pair of shoes, like a
Gucci loafer, Dior Homme black lace-ups or
even the Alexander McQueen green metallic
shoes that are flying off the shelves. Looking
ahead to summer, your holiday wardrobe
won’t be complete without a pair of knee-
length denim shorts by D Squared and a
classic vest by Vivienne Westwood. Add a
pop of colour with a belt and Ray-Ban
red-frame sunglasses for retro style points.
