were Italian cured meats, marinated olives, grilled ciabatta,
charred peppers in chilli oil and a good selection of Mellis
local cheeses, £8.95. A vegetarian version is also available
with charred egg plant. One succulent Hamilton’s burger with
caramelised onions and Emmental (far too big to be eaten like
a lady) served with a portion of hand cut fries, £7.75, and one
Special of the Day, fish cakes full of meaty flakes of salmon
and a spicy chilly broth served in a tea cup, and we were full
but satisfied.
The boys behind Hamilton’s make getting on the bar and
restaurant ladder look easy but then they’re no amateurs
who’ve struck it lucky. For years they’ve been honing their skills
as general managers at Rick’s and Candy Bar – but Hamilton’s
is their first venture going it alone.
Hamilton’s appeals to locals and families, as well as the George
Street regulars who are shunning the bright lights of the style
bars for the laidback, ‘local’ style dished up here. Good service,
good atmosphere and great food, we’ll be going back next time
we’re in the area.
