Jim Grisenthwaite, Tony Heslop, Freddy
Peacock, Steve Williams, Peter Edwards, Rita
London, Jim Buckley, Janet Dugdale and
Dougal Paver, helped raise the remainder to
secure the Collection in its entirety.
Lifelong Evertonion Dr. France had
accumulated thousands of pieces which
document the rich history of the ‘Toff ees’,
one of the original founder members of the
Football League.
Lord Grantchester said: “I was
fascinated not only by the football history,
but by the changes of time, the foreign tours,
the players contracts, the rare medals and celebratory items.
What sealed my determination to secure the Collection
were the volumes of club directors’ minute books and
ledgers, detailing the business side of the club, many
referring to the time of the club’s stewardship under my
grandfather that brought back memories of my childhood.
“No doubt other families would fi nd aspects of particular
importance to them also.”
