CITY
LIGHTS
...shine the brightest!
STOCKHOLM,
Words by Gilly PickuP
SWEDEN
A trip to Stockholm, city of 14 islands, where twinkling,
panoramic vistas greet you round every corner, can be as relaxed
or racy as you like. It’s sure to gladden the most jaded of city-
break hearts. The atmospheric, fairy tale Old Town, ‘Gamla
Stan’, is home to the impressive 608 room Royal Palace, the
biggest palace in the world still used by a head of state. Several
of the city’s major sights and glimpse-and-gasp moments are
here too including the 13th century Cathedral. The best view
of the city is from the 155 metre high Kaknas Tower or, if
you prefer a more relaxing sightseeing tour, hop on a boat and
marvel at the beauties of Stockholm from the sea. The antique
and curiosity shops are bound to delight and best buys here
include Swedish crystal, leather goods, handmade paper and
ceramics. For culinary expertise, Sweden now ranks among the
most creative and progressive countries in the world. Go local
and try typical Swedish cuisine, including traditional gravlax,
pickled herring and crayfish and wild boar and grouse.
