known as the People’s Club, with
a history as long and successful to
rival any other in existence.When a
major collection detailing that story was about
to be scattered to the four winds, its saviour
turned out to be not just steeped in its recent
history, not just a commoner, but a member of
the House of Lords.
T_h e man who founded the Everton
Collection Charitable Trust to raise money to
safeguard the largest collection of one club’s
memorabilia is Lord John Grantchester –
grandson of former Everton Chairman, Sir
John Moores.
He wanted the people to own their “family
silver” to share their “family history” and to
appreciate every bit of the People’s Club. T_h e
peer donated £100,000 towards securing the
David France Collection and together with
a group of enthusiasts including Tony Tighe,
