Reggie Jackson reference). Fielding is smooth. You can dive and jump.
Unlike many baseball games, the ball always seems to go to the base you
were hoping it would reach. The base running is done so well that run
downs are quite fun (although too easy against the computer).
Features: Tons
Most importantly there is a battery which saves your team, players, and
any upgrades you bought for them. Second, there is full stat tracking for a
season with a variable length. Are you in the mood for a 3 game set
against one other team? No problem. Are you in a fraternity and want to
have a 125 game season with 6 human competitors? That is an option as
well. Teams can be human or computer controlled- the choice is yours.
Fun?: Oh Yeah
If you like Baseball and the NES this is most assuredly the game for you.
Fun does not begin to describe the joys that come with building up your
rag tag gang of chumps into an elite demolition squad. Better yet use your
demolition squad against your buddies rag tag chumps. Nothing beats a 1
-inning slaughter rule victory!
Challenge: Variable
If you play as the American Dreams against a newly generated custom team, winning will be no problem. Now try controlling that
new custom team and beating the American Dreams: not a chance. With every option available between these two poles, Baseball
Stars gives you plenty of options.
Replay: Endless
It takes a long time to build up an amazing team. However once you start
playing with a buddy and have them build up a great team, the game can
get real interesting. Then for fun construct a new team to keep things
fresh. I’ve been playing this game for almost 20 years now and I still smile
every time I play it.
2 Player: Yes!
2 players are certainly a plus with Baseball Stars. Invite your friends over
and start building those teams. Better yet invite over Agents J and K,
we’re always up for some Baseball Stars. Don’t worry we’ll supply the
cartridge and we’ll take our custom teams.
Online Manual?: Yes at Nintendo Age
You can find all the NES manuals at Nintendo Age.
Bottom Line: This is a MUST own
If you don’t own Baseball Stars you owe it to yourself and your family to
run out and buy this game now. Okay, actually driving would probably be
faster, but regardless this one needs to be in your collection. I give this
game my rally cap guarantee; this one’s a winner.
Bases Loaded: The value has decreased this month, so it might be a good time to pick up this game. With a car-
tridge only price of $3 and CIB of $4, even with a C rating, it will cost less than lunch at McDonalds.
Baseball Stars: As a “must play” baseball title you can pick up this game, Cartridge only, for about $8. However,
the CIB price of $24 may only be in range for a collector, and not the casual gamer.
