move quickly, the world will be in chaos by the hand of Dracula. Could you spare some time and tell me something that I could use to
speed this quest up!” Is that too much to ask?
Super Mario Bros. 2 Legend of Zelda 2 Castlevania 2

Round 6: Controls
What else can I say about the controls of a Mario game? You run, jump, duck, pickup, and that’s about it. I will deduct stars, however,
because Luigi tends to not land square on the edge of platforms and can over shoot when you least expect it. In Zelda, Link manages a
complex control scheme perfectly by fully utilizing menus and button combinations to combine magic and attack powers for good ma-
neuvering. Castlevania tried to do something similar to Zelda, but it’s not executed nearly as well. Zelda takes the round with the per-
fect mix of complexity and simplicity.

Round 7: Best Sequel
It all comes down to this: Which of these games stands the
test of time best. Of course since this is a wildcard category
points are doubled.
Let’s start with Mario 2. Before we all knew we were
cheated with a Doki Doki remake, we all played it and loved
it. It has been used a multitude of times in various other
systems, including the SNES, and as the launch title for the
Game Boy Advance. This sequel has received facelifts and
gameplay changes to make it more difficult. Anyone else
find all the red coins and Yoshi eggs? Yup, I did that and I
like the minor changes that breathed life into the game
again and again, so the winner goes to Mario.
That leads us to second place, Zelda or Castlevania? Zelda
2 is often hated by Zelda fans due to the fact that it went in
a completely new direction, if the game was renamed to
something like “Green Dude Collecting the Power Sphere 2:
Super Mario Bros 2 Slot Machine. Get those extra lives Generic Brand” maybe die-hard Zelda fans would not have
much of an issue with it. However, Castlevania has recently had some of this same backlash after a YouTube personality told people it
was a bad game. However, if it was not for Simon’s quest there would be no Symphony of the Night for the PlayStation. Fans of the
series still claim that PlayStation game, as the best rendition (I say the third myself but to each their own), so Castlevania takes the
number two spot, with Zelda taking it up in the rear.

Final Judgement
Super Mario Bros. 2 Legend of Zelda 2 Castlevania 2

We have a winner, by less than a tenth of a star Zelda pulls it out with a downward
strike on Simon’s multiple endings and takes the battle. Sure all three of these games
are great (as you can see by the close scores), and yes you can easily find them all on
the Wii’s virtual console for 500 points. I recommend trying each of them out if you did
skip them in the past. Sure these are not the best sequels of the series, but that does-
n’t mean they were bad games. They all have a charm to them that appeals to any
gamer, still to today. They sometimes get a bad rap because of being placed in a
series that had already defined mechanics and then tried to convince the fans to sim-
ply adjust. Maybe it is our collective fault that we just didn’t give them the game time
they truly deserve. I hope I cleared up some confusion here; however as the master
of the Game Battle all decisions are final. If you disagree with me, I will have my
guards escort you out of the thunder dome. This is Game Battle!
