The set-up is ideal for strafing, but if you play aggressively rather
than defensively, you're going to find yourself frustrated by your
own inability to adjust.
The game definitely provides a challenge once you get the hang
of it, and proving yourself to be a nimble pilot is quite rewarding.
But you're going to need a lot of personal adjustment to get used
to the game's unique design.

homebrew scene. There supposedly was a regular Space Treat
at one time, and this is a jazzed up version, released in 2002.
The title alone makes me cock an eyebrow. What exactly was
the inspiration?
In Space Treat Deluxe, you have a ship at the bottom of the
screen. There is a treat at the top of the screen, some sort of
yummy snack food. Between it and you are several rows of
obstacles, cruising by without a care. You have to cross between
them all, reach the treat at the top, and work your way back down
to the bottom. So, unlike Frogger, where you have to reach the
top, you need to make a round trip.
The controls are sharp and the sound effects are very nice. The
visuals are very colorful, and the smooth motion makes the game
almost trance-inducing. There's a flow here that really grabs you.

In Space Treat Deluxe, you control a ship that must reach the top
of the screen, collect the tasty treat located there, and get it back
to its base at the bottom. The original version of Space Treat
was released at the 2002 Classic Gaming Expo. This new ver-
sion adds several improvements to the original, including:
 Scoring Maybe it's because I'm getting so jaded with the current trend in
 video games with squad combat and first person shooting and Hi-Score feature “Kill 'em all, let Bob sort 'em out” techniques. There's no denying
 More stable graphics current games are exciting. But then a quiet little title like Space
Treat Deluxe comes along and steals away hours at a time, and  7800 compatibility
has you constantly thinking of playing it again. If it ever gets
 Wider emulators compatibility converted to another system, I hope for a new age-y CD sound-
track, but that would be the only thing I would want changed. It's  Various cosmetic and audio improvements
a perfect quiet time game.

Space Treat Deluxe includes a beautiful Atari silver-style label
designed by Dale Crum as well as an eight page, full-color man-
ual. Available in NTSC and PAL formats.

Inspiration is where you find it. Admittedly, it can come at rather
odd times. Some games may have a catchy title, but you still
wonder what prompted the thought in the first place (Ninja Golf, - Peter G
anyone?).
Space Treat Deluxe is a relatively older title in the Atari 2600
