TRINITY ANNUAL FUND
Report 2007/08

OVER €375,000 RAISED FROM 1,142 DONORS

Alumni and friends of Trinity recognise, and have benefited from, the significant contribution Trinity College Dublin has made and continues to make to education and research in Ireland and across the world.

Whilst preserving our rich history and tradition, we must ensure that our students continue to benefit from the unique Trinity experience as their predecessors did. The costs associated with providing world-class academic facilities and support is escalating and the Government’s funding environment is becoming ever more stretched. As a result, private philanthropy is playing an increasingly important role in the University’s budget: alumni donations are pivotal to Trinity's future.

The Trinity Annual Fund1 (TAF) facilitates the many alumni and friends who wish to give back to Trinity and make a tangible difference to College life. In the year ending September 2008, the Trinity Annual Fund raised a total of €379,378 from 1,142 donors2. See following pages for a breakdown of numbers.

UNIVERSITY OF DUBLIN FUND
For residents of the United States
Over $80,000 donated to the Fund in 2007/08

The University of Dublin Fund is a trust organised in 1954 to support “the educational purposes of the University of Dublin, either in Ireland or in the United States”. This fund allows alumni in the US to financially support Trinity initiatives in a tax efficient manner, exempt from Federal Income Tax. Managed by a committed group of volunteer trustees in the US, a sample of projects supported to date include Trinity Access Programmes (TAP), Hamilton Mathematics Institute, NYU scholarship, Library US research visit and the Medical Ethics Programme.

FRONT GATE CLUB
78 members in 2007/08

The Front Gate Club is an alumni-driven initiative facilitating support for the mission of Trinity College in a tax effective manner. The funds generated from the Club are used to enhance College life through the Trinity Annual Fund. Membership is granted automatically to donors of €1,000 per annum (or currency equivalent). There are plans to improve on recent levels of activity for this group of donors with special invitations to Trinity events and additional publications.

THE UK TRUST FOR TCD
For residents of Great Britain and Northern Ireland
Over £150,000 donated to the Trust in 2007/08

The UK Trust for TCD facilitates tax efficient giving for alumni and friends in Great Britain and Northern Ireland who wish to give back to Trinity. Since its foundation in 1980, the Trust has received over £1 million in alumni donations and gift aid. This trust is managed by a committed group of volunteer trustees in the UK on behalf of the College.

BEQUESTS

Since the granting of its Charter over 400 years ago, Trinity College Dublin has benefited from many bequests. The quality of the University's teaching and research today is testimony to the foresight of our benefactors. Bequests offer individuals the chance to give something back to an institution. If you have chosen to make a provision for Trinity College in your will, we are very grateful. By letting us know your intentions you can help
Trinity plan for the future. We can ensure that your gift is appropriately honoured and keep you informed about current developments.

Any information you provide will be treated in the strictest confidence.

1 The Trinity Annual Fund (TAF) works closely with the TCD Association & Trust to fund small and medium size projects which are not funded by mainstream College resources.

2 TAF incorporates other alumni sources of giving, including the University of Dublin Fund, The UK Trust for TCD, alumni bequests and the Front Gate Club. The figures provided are based on cash received for the period 1 October, 2007 to 30 September, 2008.
