through the Lens
The front cover this month is the work of Fortunato Gatto, a Technical Support Agent with
Wintel's Italian team.
Fortunato came to Greenock in September 2007. Prior to working with IBM, he worked for
people
Toshiba in Milan doing technical support for their customers.
Fortunato bought his first camera two years ago. With no previous knowledge of the art of
photography, he has used his camera to learn skills he didn't know he had. His photography is
from the heart. Within the first six months of living in Scotland, he travelled 20,000 miles (within
Scotland) taking photos each weekend. For the first five months, he didn't have a car and
rented, which made it a pretty expensive hobby! However, the spectacular Scottish landscapes
have drawn Fortunato, with his 400D Cannon EOS camera, and led him to make the journey
from Largs, where he has set up home, to places such as Loch Leven, Rannoch Moor, Skye and
even the far North West.
Wintel's rest area, known as The Gallery, displays some of Fortunato's stunning
pictures. Some are of beautiful Autumn/Winter scenes … Fortunato has taken
Life these pictures in often freezing conditions, sometimes wading deep into
Scottish lochs, to get the perfect picture. And perfect they are!
Fortunato is researching and
Inspiration
considering writing a book
about Scottish geology, and will
use his pictures to
illustrate within the book. "I
love Scotland." said Fortunato
"When I lived in Milan, I had to
travel outside of the city to find
good scenes for my pictures. I
love natural beauty and here in
Scotland, it's all around me!"
