The third Pembrokeshire Ladies Garden Party was
held at Wolfscastle Country Hotel at the beginning ofPics:
July.
In the past two years the party has raised a total of
£11,000 for cancer care and with the money for this
year’s event still coming in, it looks as though the
total funds will top last year’s total of £6,300.
The party is organised by Nicola Gerson, who lost
her mother Judy Kelly, to breast cancer at the age of
just 55.
While she was ill Judy expressed a wish to have a
garden party where she could put on her party
clothes and get together with all her close female
friends.
Nicola organised just that. The resulting party, held
in her garden, was attended by about 80 women,
who all dressed for the occasion and feasted on
Pimms and canapes.
All the women agreed that they should make the
event an annual one and after Judy died the party
became a fundraiser open to all ladies in
Pembrokeshire, a way of remembering Judy and
raising vital funds.
For the past two years, the money raised has gone
to Macmillan Cancer Care. This year fundraisers have
turned their attentions closer to home, and chosen
Pembrokeshire charity Paul Sartori, which provides
palliative home care for terminal cancer patients.
“My mum was very lucky that she came from a big
family with friends and aunts who were nurses,” said
Nicola.
"We didn’t need support from Paul Sartori but it
made me realise how necessary that support is. Two
of my great aunties were nursed by Paul Sartori
nurses last year. It is such a good cause and it is all
local.
“It is so important at the end to be at home and
with family, but it is hard, families need the support
that Paul Sartori provides.”
This year’s party attracted ladies from as far afield
as Italy and Newcastle, as well as Pembrokeshire’s
prettiest, who put on their glad rags, enjoyed a
delicious buffet and jugfulls of Pimms.
Entertainment was provided by a tableside
magician, local funk band Renthouse Groove and
