lagoon at the southern end of the South Florida watershed, where fresh water from
the Everglades mixes with salt water from the Gulf of Mexico to form an estuary sur-
rounded by mangrove forests. Florida Bay supports a host of marine animals and is
important economically to the shrimp and stone crab fisheries.
