What’s next?
As the BILD’s overall aim is to become the
UK’s leading individual L&D membership
organisation, the Institute naturally wishes
to increase its membership significantly.
This aim is not for financial gain, as all
BILD membership proceeds are ploughed
back into membership services, but so
that the Institute can make a real impact
on the L&D community and provide more
enhanced services to its members.
The BILD membership categories are
currently mapped against people’s
L&D experience and qualifications.
However, the BILD recognises the value
of experience and fully understands that
there are many L&D professionals who
have vast experience but perhaps no
formal qualifications.
In 2009, the BILD will be launching an
Accreditation of Prior Achievement (APA)
option. Any BILD applicant wishing to
progress past the Member (MBILD) category
to Fellow (FBILD) status without a level
five qualification will be offered this route.
Individuals will have to produce a portfolio
of evidence assessed against the Institute’s
APA criteria, together with a consultation
session with a BILD director. Subject to
satisfactory evidence, Fellow status will then
be awarded. The BILD aims to make its
APA route as affordable and achievable as
possible, charging all applicants a minimal
fee to cover its own costs. This is likely to be
in the region of £300.
How you can help
The Institute can help you as a learning
and development professional but we need
more members so that we can do this
more effectively and so that we can begin
to make a real difference in supporting the
L&D industry as a whole.
