Recognising a common need across the sector to
address this issue, employers have joined together
Linda A Macaulay, Manchester Business School
to develop a new IT Professional Development
Programme. Based on a suite of common core
competencies needed by IT professionals in the
early stages of their careers, the new programme
will enable new recruits to develop these
competencies and achieve a university-awarded,
industry-recognised qualification. Alongside ‘on
the job’ learning, participants can develop their
competencies through a range of Masters-level
Higher Education courses, private training courses
and, where available, employers’ own training.
The programme is supported by the Higher
Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE),
and is currently under development in partnership
with employers, private training providers and a
consortium of universities.
