Set-Up #2.
Set-Up #2. PRECIS.
“Boxing Mad. Simple set-up using
three standard softboxes. Meter
your fill light between one & two
stops lower than the key light.
Position the hair light carefully so
not to cross-light the subject, and
adjust the power until you can see
the highlight on the hair.”

Set-Up #3. PRECIS.
“Get the softbox up high and
directly avoce your subject. Do the
same with the Backlite reflector.
Try mounting it above the paper. Get
a red gel and attach it to the
barndoors and crank the power to

metering continued.
“This is of course however the digital age, so if you don’t have a
flash meter you can use the histogram on the back of your
camera to check the exposure and the effects of your setup.
Ensure you have a full histogram (see histogram example). If you have the
flashing highlights function on your camera, use it so you can ensure you
are not clipping the all important highlight detail. If your histogram is
disappearing off the right hand side of the LCD, then you are over
exposing your image. If it is bunched to the left of the LCD, then you are
under-exposing. The aim is to fill the histogram, whilst just maintaining
the highlights.”

“Creating distance between the
example
subject and the background
will help throw the background
out of focus and naturally blur
any creases in the paper. More
space will also assist you in
controlling the light and prevent
unwanted light from spilling
where it isn’t wanted. Take time to set your lights up before your subject
arrives and then fine tune everything when the subject is ready.”
