Charles Spencer, the Ninth Earl Spencer and
the late Princess Diana’s brother, recently in-
troduced his new home furnishings brand and
spoke at McGannon Showrooms in the Dallas
Design District. According to Design Industries
Foundation Fighting AIDS (DIFFA) represen-
tative Amity Thomas, more than 250 members
of the design community attended the invita-
tion-only event, hosted by Bill and Sharon Mc-
Gannon of McGannon Showrooms.
Althorp: Living History from Theodore Al-
exander is inspired by its namesake, a 500-year-
old English estate in pastoral Northampton-
shire and home to generations of the Spencer
family – and the collection of 17th, 18th and
19th century furniture and upholstery pieces
collected throughout the years. The new brand
is a collection of more than 300 pieces with 21
upholstery frames and 60 fabrics.
“There is a constant need for the house and
its collection to support itself. It was with this
in mind that my family’s trustees and I first
entertained the idea of joining with Theodore
Alexander in a venture that appears to have
only positives: designs from the Spencer col-
lection at Althorp can be made available to
their client list, and the house receives a rev-
enue infusion that can preserve and enhance
its many wonderful treasures. Both strike me
as admirable objectives, and I am delighted to
lend my full support to the Althorp Collec-
tion,” Spencer said.
